About the FDA Exam
The First Division Assistant (FDA) exam is conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC)
to recruit Group-C officers. The exam has three stages: Kannada Language Test, General Knowledge, and
General English/General Kannada.
Exam Stages at a Glance
1. Kannada Language Test – Descriptive – 150 Marks – 1 Hour 30 Min (Qualifying Only)
2. General Knowledge – Objective – 100 Marks – 1 Hour 30 Min
3. General Kannada / General English – Objective – 100 Marks – 1 Hour 30 Min
1. Kannada Language Test (Compulsory)
Type: Descriptive (Essay + Grammar + Translation)
Qualifying in nature – Must score 35%
Mandatory for all candidates
Syllabus Includes: – Kannada Grammar – Essay Writing – Precis Writing – English to Kannada Translation – Vocabulary & Comprehension
2. General Knowledge (GK)
Type: Objective (MCQs)
Syllabus Includes: – Karnataka & Indian History – Constitution of India – Geography of Karnataka
– Current Affairs – State, National, International – Science & Technology – Economy – India & Karnataka – Government Programs/Schemes
3. General Kannada or General English (Choose One)
Type: Objective (MCQs)
If Choosing General English: – Grammar and Sentence Correction – Vocabulary – Synonyms/Antonyms – Reading Comprehension – Precis Writing – Idioms & Phrases
If Choosing General Kannada: – Kannada Grammar – Vocabulary & Sentence Structure – Idioms & Phrases – Comprehension
Final Selection Criteria
Kannada Test – Qualifying only
Final Merit = GK + General English/Kannada Score
